A U.S. soldier died of a gunshot wound at a logistical support area in Balad, north of Baghdad, the military said Wednesday. The soldier, from 1st Corps Support Command, suffered a gunshot wound on Tuesday and was pronounced dead at the scene and transferred to the local mortuary affairs detachment, the military said in a statement. The name of the soldier was being withheld pending next of kin notification and the incident was under investigation, the military said. Camp Anaconda in Balad, is 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Baghdad.
