A U.S. soldier from the Army's Task Force Freedom was killed by a bomb in the northern city of Tal Afar, the U.S. military said. The soldier's name was withheld pending notification of kin. The statement said the incident occurred Monday when the soldier's vehicle struck a bomb. Fighting has been raging for several days on the edge of Tal Afar as U.S. and Iraqi forces try to restore full control of the city, 420 kilometers (260 miles) north of Baghdad, The Associated Press reported.
