A U.S. soldier was killed and four were wounded in a roadside bomb attack in Hawija, the military said Friday. The soldier, from One Task Force Liberty, was killed on Thursday evening. The wounded soldiers were evacuated to a coalition medical facility and were in a stable condition, the military said in a statement. Hawija is 240 kilometers (150 miles) north of Baghdad. The name of the dead soldier was withheld pending notification of next of kin. As of Thursday, April 28, 2005, at least 1,572 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
