Dr. Salih bin Hussain Alawaji, Undersecretary for Electricity Affairs of the Ministry of Water and Electricity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was today elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electric Grid Commission of the Gulf Cooperation Council's member states. Dr. Salih and other members of the board, from Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, were also elected at elections during the 2nd ordinary General Assembly of the commission. Following the board's elections, the board held its first meeting in its new form and discussed a number of issues on the agenda. In 2005, the commission is planning to request bids at an estimated cost of $869 million for the implementation of phase one of the power grid among the project's Phase One Parties, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.
