Contracts to implement phase one of power grid linking Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia were signed here today. Following the signing ceremony, Dr. Salih bin Hussein Alawaji, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Water and Electricity for Electricity Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who is also Chairman of the GCC Power Grid, reported that the project costs $1,950,323,146. He explained that the project serves as reserve provider in case of total or partial power fault or cut and works to reduce the power generation ability to half the required reserves. In future GCC countries could export electricity to foreign countries, he declared.
