The Director General of the Medical Services at the Armed Forces, Major General Kitab bin Eid Al-Oteibi inaugurated here on Saturday an international medical conference on the latest medical advances in the field of sickle cell anemia. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ibrahim Al-Hafazi, the Head of the Pediatric Department at the Program of the Hospitals of the Armed Forces, said the organization of the conference aims at improving the performance of persons working in the health care field as well as exchanging views with the specialist centers in this respect. On his part, the Director of the Program of the Hospitals of the Armed Forces in the Kingdom's Southern region, Brigadier Saeed bin Abdullah Arkan said the sickle cell anemia, which is a hereditary disease, had prompted the concern of officials to get acquainted with the latest advances in diagnosis and treatment of this disease. The two-day conference is attended by specialists from Britain and the US in addition to specialists from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
