Twenty scientists from the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) have completed preparations for participating in the 32nd International Geological Congress to be held in Florence, Italy, Friday through Aug. 28, said Faisal Shalab , a spokesman for SGS. The event will involve more than 5,000 scientists from more than 141 countries and will include eight plenary sessions, 75 symposia with 388 scientific sessions, 36 workshops and 25 short courses as well as 93 geological excursions. SGS was working toward participation in the 32nd international congress because it is a major meeting place for geologists from around the world, providing an opportunity to present new information, learn about current and upcoming earth science concepts and technologies, and meet old and new colleagues,"Shalabi said. The Agenda of the congress is indeed very rich. Beside the debate that will be developed around the classical themes of the earth sciences, the Congress of Florence will be the occasion to convey to the scientists and to the public the knowledge of those new scientific frontiers that assign to geology a more and more central position in the challenges of the third millennium.
