King Abdulaziz University's Faculty of Earth Sciences received recognition from the oldest geological society "the British Geological Survey" (BGS) to be the first in the Arab world and outside the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth States. The Faculty is a premier institution in the Arab World and in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that teaches and trains students in all disciplines of Earth Sciences. It teaches Economic Geology; Engineering Geology; Environmental geology; Hydrogeology; Structural geology and Petrology. The Faculty of Earth Sciences possesses distinguished Field and Laboratory and Research potentials. It confers academic degrees including Master's degrees and Doctorates. It is the first University Faculty in Saudi Arabia to grant scientific doctoral degrees to post graduate students. Its research activities are numerous and focus on various earth sciences disciplines. Most of its research works and projects are supported by the King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology (KASST).
