A group of geologists from 17 countries are set to discuss on Monday the future of planet Earth at the eighth International Geology Assembly. The event, which will be opened by Prince Misha'al Bin Majed Bin Abdul Aziz, has been organized by the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS), in tandem with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, King Abdul Aziz University and the Saudi Society for Geosciences. In a statement carried by Okaz newspaper and published today by Saudi Gazette, SGS president Zuhair Bin Abdul Hafeeth Nawab said the scientists would discuss the development of groundwater resources, the Arabian-Nubian Shield – an exposure of Precambrian crystalline rocks on the flanks of the Red Sea – mineral waste management and environmental geology, sediment and petrol geology, earthquake and volcano hazards, mineral exploration, dynamic and structural geology and geographic information systems. --MORE
