Three people were killed and 16 injured Tuesday when an explosive detonated in southern Afghanistan, officials and witnesses said, according to dpa. "Police were defusing the explosives seized from the Taliban today in Kandahar city that suddenly exploded," said Samim Khpalwak, spokesman for the province with the same name. He said one civilian passerby was killed, while five civilians and five police were wounded. A witness in the area said that two police and one civilian were killed and 16 others including eight police injured.
