At least 14 people including 13 police officers were killed and 15 others injured Friday in two suicide attacks in southern Afghanistan, dpa quoted officials as saying. "A suicide bomber entered a police reserve base in Trinkot city, detonating his explosives, which killed 12 police and injured five," said Abdullah Hemmat, spokesman for the governor of Uruzgan province. The incident took place at 12:00 pm (0730 GMT) when the policemen were eating lunch, and it was not clear how the bomber entered the base, he said. Also Friday, a suicide bomber killed one policeman and one civilian in Kandahar province on the border with Pakistan, and injured two more policemen and eight civilians. "The bomber had crossed the border entering Afghan soil in Spin Boldak district and police stopped him at a checkpoint," said Abdul Raziq, police chief for Kandahar. "He detonated his explosive vest when police were searching him," Raziq said. Nobody has claimed responsibility for either attack.
