At least eight civilians were killed and about 50 others injured when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-filled vehicle in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, officials said. According to dpa, the attack, claimed by the Taliban, took place near the provincial governor's office in Lashkar Gah city, capital of the volatile province of Helmand, the Interior Ministry said. "Eight people, all civilians, were killed and 48 others injured," said a police official who asked not to be named as he was not authorized to speak to the media. The official said police officers were among the injured, but could not give a specific number. A spokesman for the governor was wounded, said Mohammad Jan Rasoulyar, provincial deputy governor.
