The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah chaired the 41st meeting of the Competition Council last Tuesday. During the meeting, the Council discussed a number of reports on the Council's objectives and achievements, a draft annual report of the Council for the year 2014, and the Council's working plan for the current fiscal year. The Council issued decisions related to the applications of economic concentration based on the reports submitted by the Secretariat after the completion of the study of such applications from the economic and legal aspects, assessment of the effects of these mergers aiming to maintain fair competition and encourage it, assessing of the actual level of competition, and the ease of new facilities entry into the market. It is noteworthy that the Competition Council is working to achieve its objectives of promoting fair and transparent competition and anti-monopolistic practices which have effect on competition. The Council's members include representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy and Planning, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, and four members with expertise in this area.
