The Competition Council today held its 40th meeting headed by the Minister of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Council Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah. The Secretary General of the Competition Council, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Qasim reviewed a number of technical reports and memos provided by the Secretariat, including reports on some of the issues under study, and a report on the development of the study of procedures of economic concentration requests and work to improve it, and the progress of the complaints and initiatives. The Council reviewed the new electronic services and information technology projects to be implemented in 2015 to contribute to making a quantum leap in the delivery of services to beneficiaries of customers and citizens electronically in an easy and comfortable way. The Council also issued a number of decisions to initiate research and investigation proceedings in a number of complaints and initiatives, and decisions relating to applications concerning economic concentration presented by a number of facilities, in addition to the decision to select employees who have the status of judicial police in the application of the provisions of the Competition Law. It is noteworthy that the Competition Council is working to achieve its objectives of promoting fair and transparent competition and fighting monopolistic practices affecting competition. The council's membership includes representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority and four members with expertise in this area.
