A rocket fired by Taliban insurgents landed on a house in eastern Afghanistan Friday, killing one child and injuring five others, an official said. All victims were from the same family in a remote village of Mohmand Dara district, said Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, governor spokesman for Nangarhar province. Separately, a group of gunmen in police uniform attacked a convoy carrying the governor of Paktia in the northern province of Balkh, his spokesman said. "Joma Khan Hamdard was heading from Mazar-e-Sharif city to Kabul this morning when the gunmen attacked his motorcade on the outskirts of the city," Rohullah Samoon told dpa. Samoon said Hamdard was unhurt but three of his bodyguards were killed and two wounded. "The clash between the attackers and Hamdard's bodyguards continued for an hour. Then Mazar-e-Sharif police came and the attackers started firing on them, hitting one officer," the third person injured, he said.
