AlHijjah 6, 1433, Oct 22, 2012, SPA -- At least 14 people were killed and five injured in separate attacks in Afghanistan, officials said Monday. Unknown armed men shot dead five civilian men from one family early Monday in the eastern province of Nangarhar, a provincial spokesman said. "A group of armed men entered a house in Mohmand Dara district, opening fire on the family, in which five men were killed and a woman was injured," dpa quoted Ahmad Zia Abdulzai as saying. He said personal hostilities were the reason for the attack and that the attackers escaped. Meanwhile, two policemen were killed and four were wounded when a landmine they were trying to defuse went off in Ismael Khel district of Khost province, said Baryalay Rawan, a provincial official. Six Taliban fighters, including one of the insurgents' shadow officials, were killed in a joint Afghan and coalition operation in Wardak province, police said. Separately, a tribal elder was killed Sunday night by unknown armed men in the southern province of Helmand, the governor's office said.
