Jordanian military guards at the northern border have in the past 48 hours received some 467 Syrian refugees, who crossed from several points along the frontier. The armed forces personnel have been escorting Syrians fleeing the escalating conflict in the war-torn country, providing food and urgent medical aid and transporting them to refugee camps and accommodation centers, Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported. Jordan has kept its borders open, taking in hundreds of displaced Syrians on a daily basis. Some 600,000 Syrians are registered as refugees by the United Nations refugee agency, the UNHCR, in Jordan.
