The Syria peace conference would not take place before July, a month later than initially planned, dpa quoted international mediator Lakhdar Brahimi as saying Wednesday after meeting senior US and Russian officials. Brahimi, the UN and Arab League envoy tasked with negotiating an end to the more than two-year Syria conflict, said further preparatory three-way talks like the meeting in Geneva would take place June 25. The conference would aim for a comprehensive peace agreement between the Syrian government and opposition and for an agreement on a transition government, he said. The three parties have not bridged the gaps on all contentious issues, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said after the meeting, which focussed on the question of who would participate in the peace conference.
