Senior government officials from the United States and Russia met in Geneva Wednesday to negotiate the contentious issue of participation at a planned Syria peace conference in Geneva. The Envoy of the United Nations and the Arab League for Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, also joined the meeting, attended by US Foreign Affairs Under Secretary Wendy Sherman and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov. The United States and Russia have so far not agreed on whether to invite Iran to the yet-to-be scheduled conference, diplomats were quoted as saying by DPA. Opposition members continue to say they will not attend.
