Three women were shot dead in south-western Switzerland, allegedly by a mentally ill man who was now in police custody, officials said Thursday. Two men were also wounded in the attack in the mountain village of Daillon near Sion, about 40 kilometres from the French border, late Wednesday, dpa reported. Police were called at about 9 pm (2000 GMT) to the village and were able to disarm and apprehend the suspect, the Swiss news agency sda reported. The 33-year-old alleged shooter, a resident of the village, suffered serious injuries after being shot by police, and remains in hospital. The women - aged 32, 54 and 79 - died at the scene, the authorities said. Police said the motive for the attack was not immediately known.
