Upon directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to treat the delivery and post-delivery of Saudi Siamese twins at a renowned hospital in Riyadh, a surgical separation started at King Abdulaziz Medical City of the National Guard in Riyadh today to separate Abdullah and Salman, whose then-pregnant mother was rushed to deliver a conjoined twins five months ago from Abha in the southern part of the Kingdom to Riyadh, official sources said. During the operation, which is expected to last for nine and half hours, the medical team, led by Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeea, Minister of Health, will conduct the separation of the twins through eight phases. Preliminary tests revealed the possibility of the separtion of the twins at a 70% success rate, if God willing. More than 30 doctors and technicians in a number of specializations take part in the operation. As many as 28 successful twins separation operations have so far been performed by the hospital which now ranks among the world's best in running this kind of complicated job.
