The surgical procedure awaiting the Iraqi conjoined twins, who arrived at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh on Sunday, will be an extensive and complicated one, Jeddah-based 'Saudi Gazette' quoted Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabea, the Head of the surgical team, as saying. Dr. Rabea, who preformed 10 successful operations on conjoined twins of various nationalities was hopeful about the twin s operation s outcome and said they had a 60 percent chance of success. I am optimistic, he was heard saying. The one-week old Iraqi twins for now are required to gain weight so that they can be operated on, that will happen when the twins will reach about three months of age. He emphasized that the medical team did not want to put the twins under too much stress with the series of clinical tests and CT scans as they had just arrived. We will start performing the necessary tests starting next week and during the following weeks, the decision on their separation will be taken, he said. --more 14 29 Local Time 11 29 GMT
