To highlight the forthcoming 33rd Supreme Council Summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member countries scheduled for Manama, Bahrain, on December 24-25, 2012, the GCC Secretariat General issued a statement on the organization's achievements in 2012 in different fields. The statement said the GCC has made great strides during the past three decades, thanks to the efforts and dedication exerted by its consecutive and current leaders. A number of achievemnts in different fields have been reached, the statement said, adding that even the quality of cooperation has been upgraded to high levels to meet the aspirations of their peoples, the statement said In the political field, the statement cast light on the position of the GCC member states towards the relations with Iran, calling on the neighboring country to adhere to principles of good neighborhood, mutual respect, recognition of international norms, laws and charters, non-interference in the domestic affairs of GCC member countries, solution of difference through peaceful means and direct dialogue, non-use of force or threat others with using it, agree to make the Middle East, including the Arab Gulf region, free of mass destruction and nuclear weapons. The statement also stated the right of the region's countries to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, drawing the attention to the GCC countries concern over the Iranian nuclear porgram crisis dilemma and calling on Iran to show full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. --More
