AlHijjah 28, 1433, Nov 13, 2012, SPA -- Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, stressed that there should be a serious international commitment to put a quick end to the escalating humanitarian tragedy in Syria and pave the way to removing the tyranny of the unjust regime and begin the process of transfer of power on the basis of a clear and explicit resolution by the Security Council of the United Nations. In his speech to the Second Arab-European Ministerial Meeting which was held today in the Egyptian capital Cairo, he looked forward to more European efforts in the direction of unifying the international will to tackle the Syrian crisis and provide the necessary support at the political, security and humanitarian arenas under a common position to support the Syrian people and achieve their legitimate aspirations. With regard to the Iranian nuclear file, the minister also asserted that the Kingdom is still at its supportive position of efforts to resolve the crisis through diplomacy and meet this Iranian challenge which constitutes a clear threat not only to the security and stability of the Gulf but also to international security as well. In the beginning, I am pleased to extend my thanks and gratitude to all who have contributed to the preparation and arrangement of this second joint Euro-Arab meeting. The keenness of the parties to hold this meeting reflects our conviction of the importance of the Arab-European dialogue and the feasibility of building on what we established in Malta and move towards new horizons of cooperation and coordination among ourselves on the issues and matters of common interest.
