Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the Minister of Foreign Affairs began the press conference held here following the conclusion of the meetings of the 123rd session of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Council by saying that in the framework of the political issues that were discussed, the heinous massacre that took place in the Houla city of Homs topped the debate. He said the continuing deterioration of the situation on the Syrian arena in general, without a glimmer of hope for a solution, and in light of the intransigence of the Syrian government and its failure to respond to all efforts to immediately stop violence, the plan of the joint UN-Arab League envoy or to meet its commitments, the UN Security Council holds the responsibility for carrying out its duties stipulated by the UN Charter and takes the necessary measures to ensure the immediate application of the joint UN-Arab League envoy's plan, including the resort to Chapter VII of the UN Charter. He added that the meeting also reviewed the situation in Yemen in the light of the GCC-sponsored initiative and the continuous Iranian occupation of the three islands of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in addition to the outcomes of the recent meetings of G5+1 on the Iranian nuclear crisis. Prince Saud Al-Faisal also pointed that the GCC Ministerial Council reviewed in its meeting, the Palestinian cause and the establishment of an independent and viable state, with Al-Quds as its capital as well as the Palestinian reconciliation efforts.
