Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered a speech at the meeting of the Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers who started their 137th session here earlier today. Prince Saud Al-Faisal stressed that week position by the States which opposed the Security Council's resolution and the resolution of the General Assembly with regard to Syria had granted the Syrian regime the license to continue the brutality against the Syrian people. He stated, "The lax and feeble position by the states which caused the failure of the Security Council's resolution and voted against the resolution of the General Assembly with regard to the Syrian issue gave the Syrian regime the license for persisting in the brutal practices against the Syrian people, without pity or mercy." Prince Saud Al-Faisal said that the terrible increase in the numbers of dead and injured in Idleb, Homs, and in particular Baba Amr and even Damascus and Aleppo since the fall of the Security Council resolution and up to now demonstrates starkly the results of the objection to the passage of this resolution, which could have helped to prevent bloodshed and save lives. Prince Saud Al-Faisal said that Saudi Arabia wishes success to the efforts of the joint envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States Kofi Annan in his mission to pave ways to ease the humanitarian suffering of the afflicted Syrian people. --More
