narcotic squads in Jizan thwarted an attempt to smuggle large quantities of hashish and captagon pills into the Kingdom last week. Frontier Guards in Jizan were tipped off about the shipment to Jizan seaport and alerted anti-narcotics squads. When the boat arrived, the squads moved in and arrested the smugglers. They found 270 kilos of hashish and 280,000 pills of captagon in the boat. Anti–narcotics squads in Jeddah simultaneously made arrests of people suspected of being the smugglers' peddlers. In another successful operation, anti-narcotics squads in the Eastern Province arrested last week a group of smugglers trying to bring in 668,682 tablets of captagon and 324 kg of hashish. The squads exchanged fire with the smugglers who were caught after a chase at Al-Hamrawyia village near Ahsa. Over the last five years Border Guard officials have seized over 12 tons of drugs, Okaz reported on Sunday. Spokesman for the Eastern Province Colonel Mohammad Al-Ghamdi said the drugs had been seized from different parts of the region. He also said smugglers attempt to trick Border Guard officials by using smuggling decoys like camels and other livestock. – With reporting by Mohammad Odaib - Okaz __
