JEDDAH — Pakistan Welfare Society (PWS), a non-political organization, arranged its ninth annual function and health seminar here last Thursday. Consul General of Pakistan Aftab Ahmed Khokher and his wife Afshan Khokher graced the occasion as chief guests. Famous Pakistani poet known for his comic poetry professor Anwar Masood attended the seminar as the guest of honor. A large number of Pakistani community members, including Azad Iqbal (grandson of Allama Mohammad Iqbal) and poet Naeem Hamid Ali Al-Hamid. The function started with the recitation of a few verses from the Qur'an followed by its translation by Mohammad Asif. Naat was presented by well known poet Mohsin Alvi. Dr. Shakeel Buksh from Makkah and prominent Saudi Cardiologist Dr. Asif Malik from King Fahad General Hospital Jeddah gave lectures on skin and heart diseases respectively. PWS general secretary Dr. Amjad Obaid shed light on the society's 9-year activities and outlined future plans. Masood expressed his profound pleasure to see the welfare activities of PWS. He entertained the audience with his Urdu and Punjabi poetry. Khokher praised and assured his full support toward social activities and project of Pakistan Kidney Centre of PWS. He announced that the consulate will commence soon courier service for delivering passport. He thanked the community for their cooperation in elimination of VIP culture from the consulate. President of PWS Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman thanked the participants of the gathering. He requested the community to help by donating unused medicines at home. Fouzia Khan, in-charge of PWS Women Wing, presented her views about PWS's mission to serve the community. Afshan spoke about the importance of women's part in society. She promised to help PWS's projects for low income families and provide medical check-up for women and children of the community. PWS senior member Shams Toor conducted the event.
