MAKKAH — The municipality has razed a manufacturing plant that had been illegally set up south of Makkah on Al-Laith Road. Al-Shawqiyah Al-Firiyah Municipality chief Mamdouh Iraqi said the plant covered more than a half a million square meters. He said: “It covered land and roads and all was removed. Any unclaimed land and abandoned plants are considered public property until they are claimed legally by following government procedures through the municipality.” The municipality's technical manager Rashad Anwar Ilahi said more than 2,000 pieces of land were cleared in this way. He said: “The municipality has strict regulations against trespassing on public properties. It is a form of theft and the municipality is working hard to ensure the phenomenon does not spread.”
