A man waits outside the Jeddah Mayoralty Saturday to protest the “unlawful” demolition of farmhouses in Abu Jua'al village, east of Jeddah. At least 150 villagers went to the Mayoralty to complain about the razing of some of their houses by the Encroachment Committee at the Mayoralty following last month's floods. Only farmhouses and rest houses illegally erected on government land were razed, said Samir Basabrien, head of the committee. Legally owned properties were not touched, he said. The village is well-developed and permission to build was given by the Mayoralty, the villagers said.
