Aijaz Ahmed Khan JEDDAH — Debutant ICAD won the JCA Afternoon League Cup with a comfortable 41-run victory over Peeran-XI. Old Students cricketers finished third after beating the star studded Munch Bakery by 45 runs. The tournament was sponsored and organized by Jeddah Cricket Association (JCA). ICAD got off to a good start thanks to Momin's brilliant 92 runs off 66 balls that enabled it to reach 211 for 6 in 25 overs. Momin launched into a late fusillade hitting 4 sixes and 11 fours in his knock. Ashkar, unbeaten on 39 runs, lent him fine support. Zaheer Peeran (3 for 40), Wajid (2 for 25) and Nizam (1 for 16) bowled well. In reply, Peeran-XI was jolted with a wicket loss on the very first ball but middle order batsmen steadied things with useful contributions from Mustafa (27), Asim (33), Nazim (23), Wajid (20) and Faisal (24 n.o.). Peeran-XI eventually folded at 170 for 9. Nishad starred for ICAD with 4 for 21. He got support from Shakeel (3 for 35), Ajit and Hasan, the latter two picking up a wicket each. In the other encounter, Omar's all-round effort helped Old Students finish third. Omar scored a brilliant century and took 2 wickets for 22 as Old Students scored 294 for 4 in 25 overs while batting first. Omar cracked 105 off 61 balls, which was studded with a six and 19 fours. Imran (26) and Javaid's (40) quick-fire boosted the tally. Abdul Rauf took 2 for 60. Munch Bakery in response reached 207 for 2 with two good stands — 97 for the 1st and 109 for the 2nd wicket. Tariq Jamal's 51 off 26 balls (5 sixes and 3 fours) and Zain's knock of 92 off 58 balls (3 sixes and 10 fours) kept Munch in the fray. Rana added a quick 43 runs, but Omar (2 for 22) and Atif (2 for 68) applied the brakes as they were eventually restricted to 249. The prize distribution ceremony was held on the ground and awards were distributed by CEO of Saudi Cricket Centre Nadeem Nadwi, who was accompanied by SCC official Sadiqul Islam. “Sports is not only about winning and losing; it is an event where teamwork and passion come into play.
