JEDDAH — This week's action in the Afternoon League saw Young Stars-XI beat Old Students-XI, Munch Bakery bundled out Peeran Warriors-XI and Jamco maintained its winning streak by beating Peeran-XI.
This league is sponsored by ACE Travel and organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association (JCA).
The highlights of this week's matches are a fine all-round performance by Arsalan of Young Stars Cricket Team, who hit magnificent knock of 102 runs and took 2 for 21 against the Old Students-XI.
The first match saw Young Stars beat Old Students by six wickets. Old Students put on 158-6 in the allotted overs. Imran scored 26, Shahid 12, Abdul Rahman 27 and Imran Sr. 37 (4x4 and a six). Arsalan, Shabbir and Zakir claimed two wickets apiece for 21, 36 and 32 runs, respectively.
Arsalan played a pivotal role for his team with the bat as well as he went on to score a century. His innings of 102 was studded with 11 fours and two sixes. Asif added 16. Young Stars was home with six wickets in hand and an over to spare. Ali had envious bowling figures of 2-1, Atif 1-55 and Rafiq 1-27.
The second match saw Munch Bakery first bundle Peeran Warriors out for 95 and then overhaul the target for the loss of three wickets. Umar scored 30 and Goshi scored 17. Peeran batsmen had a miserable time against Umar and Mubeen. Umar finished with figures of 3-37, and Mubeen 3-7, while Saleem, Waleed and Shahzad bagged a wicket each for 12, 4 and 5 runs, respectively.
Munch Bakery's veteran openers Zain ul Huda and Zain ul Salikeen scored 42 and 31, respectively. Munch Bakery reached the target in nine overs. Zubair claimed 2-8 runs and Mohsin 1-8.
Jamco maintained its winning streak by beating Peeran-X1 by 71 runs. Jamco, batting first, amassed 191 for the loss of five wickets. Khurram hit 59 (11x4 + 1x6), Faisal 26 (3x4), Waseem 29 and Nazim 26. Shakeel bagged 2-30, while Waleed, Tahir and Adnan claimed a wicket each for 50, 40 and 41 runs, respectively.
In reply, Peeran-X1 was bundled out for 101 runs. Shakeel scored 23, A. Basith 34 and Nazim 20. Faisal claimed 3-8, Faisal 2-15, while Mubashir and Sajjad claimed one wicket each.
