Six firefighting and rescue teams succeeded in containing a huge fire which broke out at timber stores and the workshops of carpenters at Al-Sanayia in north Jeddah on Tuesday. The Civil Defense received a report about the fire at the workshops overlooking Palestine Road at 8.00 A.M. Tuesday. The Civil Defense Administration in Jeddah announced a state of emergency because there was a danger that the fire could spread to residential areas. The six firefighting and rescue teams were supported by a number of water tankers. The fire spread to three other workshops, including a car workshop, said Captain Abdullah Al-Ameri, Spokesman of the Civil Defense Administration in Makkah. He said the firefighting teams succeeded in extinguishing the blaze by using foam. It took the teams three hours. The preliminary report showed that there was a shortcoming in safety measures.
