Civil Defense teams extinguished a large fire that broke out in a carpentry workshop on Al-Iskan Street in south Jeddah and spread to two nearby buildings, on Saturday. Six firefighting and two rescue teams were dispatched to the scene to fight the blaze from the northern side of the fire, due to fears of the fire spreading to adjoining workshops. Col. Muhammad Al-Qarni, Director of Civil Defense in Jeddah, said the workshop contained flammable and combustible equipment inside. Civil Defense firefighters were pressured to extinguish the blaze quickly to prevent more damage from occurring due to explosions. No casualties were reported and investigations are under way to determine the cause of the fire. Security patrols blocked off the area to facilitate access to Civil Defense fire engines and water tankers, and other fire fighting machinery to the site. – Okaz __
