Firefighting teams managed to extinguish a fire that broke out early Monday morning at six furniture and carpet manufacturing workshops in the industrial zone north of the city. Ten firefighter teams doused the fire that spread over more than 4,000 sq. meters. They prevented it from reaching a further 25 workshops located on a 25,000 sq. meter area. The Civil Defense reported that the fire gutted four of the workshops. The fire was put out before it could cause massive damage. No one was injured, said spokesman for the Civil Defense in Makkah Province, Captain Abdullah Al-Amri. He said a criminal evidence team has collected evidence to identify the cause of the fire. Authorities cordoned off the area after dozens of people showed up at the scene.
