AL KHOBAR — Cornelio "Nel" Dela Cruz Jr. of Al Khobar (EPDA) displayed excellent darts prowess and perseverance to avoid succumbing to severe pressure and thereafter prevail over Middle East Pinoy Darter from Jeddah Jhoneden Alviar, while Benedict Montanez and Bert Loyola both from Riyadh took 3rd & 4th places during the Nesto Hypermarket's Pinoy Summer Dart Fest 2019 Men's Open Singles here. Organized by the Eastern Province Darters Association (EPDA) under the auspices of the All Filipino Community & Sports Commission (AFCSCOM), 70) male and ten female darts enthusiasts of different skill level from KSA's Eastern, Western and Central Regions participated on this One-day "Win a Gold" darts tournament. The tournament's opening ceremony was attended by Romy Galvez AFCSCOM representative, Ms. Jane Tupas and George Absolor of OFW Congress. Gold coins for the champions, trophies, medals, gifts and cash prizes from sponsors NESTO Hypermarket, EPDA, Willy De Vera, Zane Englebrecht and Deon Strydom were awarded by EPDA's President Willy De Vera, Secretary Marlon Gonzales, Tournament Directors Orlie Rollan and Cosry Amer to all the winners after the game. Lots of raffle prizes and give away items sponsored by, AGH, Jollibee, Chowking, Enjaz, LBC, Denden's Delicacy, Nel Dela Cruz and Jeff Ilagan were awarded to all the winners during the competition period. Meanwhile, the tandem of EPDA's vice president Julio Padua and top non-rated EPDA player Reynan Marte, both from of Al Khobar, maximized their twice-to-beat winning advantage when they broke the winning streak of their opponents — Ronald Que of Al Khobar (EPDA) and Gilbert Nantez of Riyadh (EDSA) in their final 501 best of three games to emerge as classified draw doubles champion. EPDA's president Willy De Vera and Jhoneden Alviar settled for 3rd place. Pamela Jaro of Riyadh (EDSA) challenged her counterpart Fathia Dela Cruz of Jeddah (JEDI) to a breathtaking final match encounter before being eventually crowned as the champion of the Ladies Open Singles while Flordeliza Ilagan from Al Khobar (EPDA) was declared as 3rd placer and Marilou Gonzales from Al Khobar (EPDA) 4th Placer. Special Awards were also given to the competition's Top 5 Most T80 Throwers — Cornelio Dela Cruz Jr. (Khobar), Bert Loyola (Riyadh), Jhoneden Alviar (Jeddah), Cary Castulo (Khobar) and Willy De Vera (Khobar) and Top 5 Highest Check-out Darters — Bert Loyola (Riyadh), Cornelio Dela Cruz Jr. (Khobar), Emmer Cortez (Riyadh), Jun Jizon (Riyadh) and Cosry Amer (Khobar). EPDA is an affiliate Filipino Community & Sports organization of AFCSCOM, the biggest umbrella organization in KSA's Eastern Province, who has been supporting the Philippine Embassy and POLO-ERO in their worthwhile community projects.
