Sayed Ziauddin JEDDAH — Nestle Milo defeated Fuchs Al-Hamrani in the final and bagged the Hyundai-WPCA Afternoon Cup recently. The championship, which was conducted by Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA), was sponsored by Hyundai. In the semifinals, Nestle Milo defeated Al-Saudi XI and Fuchs Al-Hamrani downed Hala Academy Blue. Fuchs Al-Hamrani, which opted to field first after winning the toss, enjoyed early success against Nestle Milo but Faiyyaz, who made 43 in 26 balls, and Ahmed Faraz (26) did not allow the bowlers to dominate and took the team to 88 in 9 overs. Later Imran smashed 60 in 42 balls and Abdullah Zahid made 29 to reach a challenging total of 184-6 in the allotted 20 overs. Abdul Razzaq, who took 3-38, was the pick of the bowlers, while Mohammed Ali, Ahsan and Maqbool took one wicket each. While chasing, Fuchs suffered a double blow as both the openers returned without scoring. However, Nasir Khan (27) and Mohammed Ali (38) tried to steady the team but the asking rate was shooting up. Moreover, Abdullah Zahid bowled well to restrict them to 149. Man-of-the-Final Zahid took 4-19, while Aijaz Butt, who also bowled magnificently, claimed 2-23 and Asim 2-30. This was the second consecutive title win for Nestle Milo in the Hyundai-sponsored tournaments. The match was supervised by Sohail Shah and Nadeem Shabbir, while Naushad gave a running commentary of the final.
