Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — A young Makkah man got the shock of his life when by chance he found his father dead on a road in the holy city after he was run over by a car in an apparent hit-and-run on Monday evening. The student from King Abdulaziz University saw a number of people gathering at the scene of a traffic accident on street No. 64 in the Al-Sharaie district. He and one of his fellow students went to have a look with the others, only to get the shock of their lives when they discovered the dead man lying on the road was the man's father. The victim's son had only said goodbye to this father a few hours ago before going to Jeddah for his university exam. According to eyewitnesses, the student started crying out hysterically: “My father, my father.” Spectators and the traffic police tried to calm him down, but he kept on crying for his father. According to local daily Al-Madinah, the victim was a military man who was 48 years old. He was crossing the street to buy some groceries for his family when he was hit by a speeding car. Makkah Police said they were able to identify the car and the runaway driver and promised to hunt him down within a few hours. Police spokesman Lt. Col. Fawzi Al-Ansari said investigations into the accident were still ongoing, but officers have identified a suspect.
