Abdul Rahman Al-Ali Saudi Gazette JEDDAH – Firefighters from the Jeddah Civil Defense evacuated an apartment building Saturday following a fire that broke out in the entrance. Around 35 people, including women and children, were evacuated to the roof and street outside the six-floor building. Five people were evacuated via ladders. Civil Defense investigations showed that the fire started due to a short circuit. Lt. Col. Saeed Sarhan, spokesman for Makkah Region Civil Defense, said firefighters used ladders mounted on fire engines to evacuate the building and rescue the tenants from the heavy smoke caused by fire. “The fire was contained and the firefighting teams extinguished it before it spread.” Muhammad Bajubair, director of emergency and crisis cases at Jeddah Health Affairs, said all private and public hospitals were put on alert to receive any potential serious cases and provide them with necessary medical treatment.
