A lit cigarette caused a fire in a hotel in downtown Madina, but Civil Defense teams quickly extinguished it and kept it from spreading, said Lt. Col. Khalid Al-Juhani, spokesman of Madina Civil Defense. Six Civil Defense teams responded to the call about a fire in a fifth-floor room in the 10-floor hotel, he added. The floor was evacuated due to heavy smoke, Lt. Col. Al-Juhani added. Preliminary investigation showed that a bed inside the room caught fire, he said. The man who was staying in the room had minor burns on his right hand and received first aid on the spot, he added. Firefighters also extinguished a fire in a nursery in Al-Ola Governorate; the blaze damaged 60 palm trees and plants, Col. Al-Juhani said. “The firefighters used the municipality's equipment and vehicles to put out the fire because the wind helped it spread quickly to a vast area of the nursery,” he said. Four firefighting teams put out the fire, he added. __
