JEDDAH — Dar Al-Hekma University feted the law students' team that won third place in the Maktoum Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum Initiatives for Legal Excellence Moot Court Competition that took place in Dubai. The competition's closing ceremony was on April 29. Dar Al-Hekma celebrated the students' achievement on Sunday in an in-house event that included students, faculty and staff. Dubai Courts organized the closing ceremony of the Maktoum Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum Initiatives for Legal Excellence, under the patronage of Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the deputy ruler of Dubai and chairman of the Dubai Judicial Council. During the event, the winners of the sixth session of the Competition were honored. The contest aims to develop the capabilities of the judiciary personnel and encourage legal entrepreneurship. This is one of the initiatives directed to the legal and judicial community and is the first of its kind in the UAE. Students from many universities from around the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) participated in the Moot Court competition "I feel so proud of the outstanding achievement that not only gives pride to Dar Al-Hekma University but to the whole Kingdom. The excellence and enthusiasm of the law program leadership are evident in this historic accomplishment. Dar Al-Hekma University's law team that participated in the competition challenged themselves and became role models to their fellow students," said Dr. Suhair Hassan Al Qurashi, president of Dar Al-Hekma University. It was the third time Dar Al-Hekma University's law team participated in the Moot Court Competition. Dar Al-Hekma's team included senior law students who won two awards; they won third place in the General Excellence as the university received the highest estimate of the total valuation of the written claim. The second award was winning the category of the Best Written Pleading, where the team received the highest rating for the written submissions that was reviewed by the competition's higher committee. The team: Anan Al-Alwan, Mashael Bakhaswein, Nora Al-Thenyan, Rana Muddaris, Alia Al-Mehdar and Hadeel Tayeb worked for six months to prepare for this prestigious competition and had been mentored by Dr. Samah Al-Agha and Dr. Abdelrehim Alkashif from Dar Al-Hekma University's faculty members.
