JAKARTA — Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Chairman of the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, emphasized that the world does not need a third world war to establish a new international order. He underlined the vital role that middle powers and emerging nations can play in achieving balance within the current international system. Speaking at the 2024 Indonesian Foreign Policy Conference on Saturday, Prince Turki delivered a keynote address titled "The State of the World and Outlook for 2025." He highlighted significant geopolitical shifts occurring in 2024, including the impact of elections in over 70 countries, which have tested the credibility of democratic systems. Meanwhile, the ongoing rivalry between the United States and China continues to dominate global dynamics, intensifying economic decoupling, military competition, and technological polarization. Prince Turki also pointed to the escalating tensions and conflicts in the Middle East and Europe, which are further contributing to global instability. With the approach of 2025, he stressed the urgent need for reform in global governance mechanisms, many of which have proven ineffective in addressing contemporary challenges. He called for global wisdom to navigate the current uncertainty and to avoid both hot and cold wars. Prince Turki advocated for a return to a true international order founded on principles and laws to address the pressing challenges of the modern era.
