Dar Al-Hekma University celebrated its law students team that won the first place in the Maktoum Bin Mohammed Al-Maktoum Initiative for Legal Excellence Moot Court Competition in Dubai early this month. The students came back with two of the three awards in the competition. Dar Al-Hekma celebrated the students' achievement in an in-house ceremony attended by students, faculty and staff. Dubai Courts organized the closing ceremony of the competition under the patronage of Sheikh Maktoum, the deputy ruler of Dubai and chairman of the Dubai Judicial Council. The contest aims to develop the capabilities of the judiciary personnel and encourage the legal entrepreneurship. It is one of the initiatives directed to the legal and judicial community and is the first of its kind in the UAE. Students from many universities from around the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) participated in the competition. "I feel so proud of the outstanding achievement that not only gives pride for Dar Al-Hekma University but for the whole Kingdom. The excellence and enthusiasm of the law program leadership are evident in this historic accomplishment. Dar Al-Hekma University students in the Law team who participated in the Maktoum Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum Moot Court Competition challenged themselves and became role models to their fellow students," said Dr. Suhair Hassan Al-Qurashi, president of Dar Al-Hekma. It was only the second time Dar Al-Hekma team participated in the competition. The team of senior law students won two out of three possible awards. The first award was first place of the General Excellence Award as the university received the highest estimate of the total valuation of the two memos, the written claim and oral pleading. The second award was in the category of the Best Written Pleading, where the team received the highest rating for the written submissions reviewed by the competition's higher committee. During the closing ceremony, Abdul Qadir Mousa, deputy general director of Dubai Courts, honored the winners. Team members Haifa Alangari, Alanood Alsaud, Lujain Gamloo, Razan Andijani, Dalal Boogis and Maram Mansouri worked to prepare for the prestigious competition, mentored by faculty members Dr. Samah Elagha and Dr. Abdelrehim Alkashif. "Given the large scale of this competition, we can say that winning two out of three available awards highlights Dar Al-Hekma University as the best law school in the region," said Dr. Olga Nartova, the chair of the Law Department in Dar Al-Hekma University.
