JEDDAH — The National Lawyer Committee honored Dar Al-Hekma University law students at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry after their success in two key legal events over the last month. The university's law team won four out of five available awards at the Pre-Moot Middle East last month in Amman and then became the only participants from the Kingdom to compete in the Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna last week. Yassin Khayat, chairman of the National Lawyer Committee, honored team members Maryam Al-Dabbagh, Jude Jamjoom, Nouran Almekhlafi, Mohra Ferak, Ohoud Mousli, Durra Ramadan, Lamia Al-Otaibi, Nedaa Alahmadi, Noha Bangitah, and Ayat Albarakati. Suhair Hassan Al-Qurashi, university president, said: “Dar Al-Hekma University is very proud of the law team's accomplishments.” She said: “Being recognized locally is very important to them since this is the environment they will work and grow in. The students challenged themselves and became role models for their fellow students.” During the Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Dar Al-Hekma was one of 300 teams that participated. The team argued their case against four different competitors in front of three jury members of international arbitrators but was not able to make the next round. However, one of the team arbitrators reportedly praised Dar Al-Hekma University's team and said they were as qualified as any other team to progress.
