RIYADH — International Indian Public School (IIPS), Riyadh, recently celebrated Children's Day and Traditions Day with zest and exuberance. Teachers and students were dressed up alike in traditional attires from various Indian states, shining light on the country's rich culture and proudly divulging in and embracing the diversity. The event was inaugurated by Shabnam Javed, wife of Indian Ambassador Ahmad Javed. On the occasion, a special exhibition was organized by the Special Care Center of the school. The students of Special Care Center managed the stalls along with the teachers. They sold various products that were made by them like jewelry, dupattas, potpourri and jute bags. The Children's Day celebrations started off with a special assembly that commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur'an, followed by a speech highlighting the importance of this particular day. Thereafter, the chief guest Shabnam Javed addressed the children encouraging them to dream high and work hard to achieve their desirable goals. On the other hand, the teachers presented a number of euphonious songs, colorful dances and stellar plays. The children were enthusiastic and responsive, making sure they let their teachers know that the event would not be a success without them. Principal K.M. Abdul Azeez appreciated the efforts made by the students to mark this delightful day, whereas Chairman Navaz Abdul Rasheed and the Managing Committee members applauded the handiwork of the differently abled students. The vote of thanks was proposed by the vice principal, who praised all teachers for their exceptional performances and the students for their cooperation that ultimately made the day a memorable one. Planning coordinator Arshad Ali Khan gave an update on the Special Care Center students who organized a self-made exhibition and many games. The Children's Day is celebrated in India and Indian institutions abroad to commemorate the birth anniversary of the country's first post-independence prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru on Nov. 14 every year with great splendor and grandeur. It was because of the great statesman's love and passion for children, this day is marked as Children's Day to honor childhood.
