The Saudi Food and Drugs Authority (SFDA) seized over SR1 million worth of pharmaceutical items and food products, the Saudi Press Agency reported. An SFDA source said the authority ran an unannounced inspection campaign on pharmacies, warehouses for medical equipment, food factories and stores. "The authority seized pharmaceutical and food products worth over SR1 million and shut down a number of stores and warehouses for various violations. The products seized were unregistered, expired or had an unregulated price tag," said the source. The source also said the authority seized 6,147 bottles, 330,888 pills, 319 bottles of syrups from pharmacies and food stores. "The authority shut down a warehouse that used fake expiration dates tags and stickers on beauty products and sanitizers," said the source. The source said the authority shut down four stores and three warehouses in Khamis Mushayt and three stores and two warehouses in Abha on Sunday. "The warehouses and stores that were shut down have violated the authority's regulations. It also inspected 37 perfumeries and beauty products stores in the north of Riyadh to make sure that all regulations were followed and no counterfeit products were being sold," said the source. He said the authority seized 281 beauty products and more than 50,000 vitamin pills and capsules worth a total of SR42,250.
