The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has destroyed SR45 million worth of medical equipment and products that failed to meet safety regulations. The equipment and products were seized during SFDA inspections of suppliers and distributors inside the Kingdom. “The equipment was destroyed because it was stored at a different temperature from that recommended by the manufacturer. The equipment did not conform to Saudi electricity standards and the expiry dates had passed,” said Dr. Saleh Al-Tayar, Deputy Director of Medical Equipment and Products. Dr. Al-Tayar made the statement during a workshop held on Sunday by the SFDA in Riyadh. The workshop was entitled “Latest Developments of Monitoring Laws of Medical Equipment and Products in the Kingdom”. __
