Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath (TNTJ), a south Indian community organization, has successfully organized a major blood donation campaign at King Fahd University Hospital in Al-Khobar recently. The hospital coordinated the campaign with the organizers. More than 160 donors gathered on the hospital premises while 135 volunteers from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Bangladesh registered to take part. They donated 100 units of blood. A large number of expatriates, mostly from the Tamil-speaking Indian community, pledged to donate blood on a regular basis. TNTJ volunteers helped hospital staff in the registration process. A standard health screening procedure was performed prior to taking blood from donors. Each donor underwent tests for blood pressure, sugar and hemoglobin count. The checks also included communicable diseases. Dr. Abdullah Al-Rubaish, president of Dammam University, along with Dr. Ahmad Sayyah, director of Laboratory Medicine, guided the entire process. He thanked the TNTJ for organizing such a noble humanitarian work periodically. "We conduct these campaigns in accordance with the teaching of Holy Qur'an," said Syed Ali, head of TNTJ's Dammam Chapter. Ali said TNTJ has so far conducted 48 blood donation campaigns in Al-Khobar, Dammam, Qatif and Jubail hospitals. TNTJ continues to be the number one organization in hosting blood donation camps not only in Tamil Nadu but in countries as well. Health authorities in both India and Saudi Arabia commended TNTJ and gave the organization many awards in recognition of its noble work. TNTJ regularly conducts educational, charitable, humanitarian and social services to help the deserving people. "These events help improve social harmony and create awareness about Islam," Ali said.
