JEDDAH — Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath (TNTJ) – Jeddah recently teamed up with East Jeddah General Hospital Region and organized a blood donation campaign. The event took place at EJGH blood bank in Jeddah where almost 25 liters of blood was collected from around 60 donors, while a large number of expatriates mostly from the Tamil-speaking community from India pledged to donate on a regular basis. "This is 11th such blood drive of this nature for Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath (TNTJ) – Jeddah Region," said Naina Mohammed, vice president TNTJ Jeddah. "The noble act of donating blood will not only give a new lease of life to many, it also heightens our sense of social responsibility by serving humanitarian and social needs of our local communities. We are not only conducting camps, but also donating blood for emergency cases," he added. Explaining the purpose of such a campaign, Salahudeen, spokesperson of this TNTJ campaign, said, "We are guided by Qur'anic teaching that says ‘... And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved the life of all mankind! ...' (Al-Quran 5:32)." The voluntary donors of more than 60, including Saudis, participated in this drive. A standard health screening procedure was done prior to blood being donated. Each donor underwent tests for blood pressure; sugar and hemoglobin count before donation. The checks also included communicable diseases. TNTJ volunteers, who own vehicles, helped to bring enthusiastic donors to the blood bank. The campaign started at 3:00 p.m. and ended at 5:30 p.m. Safar Al Malki, responsible for blood bank, and Ali Hamad, supervisor of blood bank, took care of this campaign and thanked TNTJ organizers for organizing such a kind and noble work. Majority of the donors said that there are indebted to TNTJ and East Jeddah General Hospital and their service would help the guests of Allah. At the end of the campaign, hospital authorities informed that these kinds of camps create awareness among Saudis & expatriates.
