Fatima Muhammad Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Nine female Saudi students from Dar Al-Hekma College's law department have qualified to take part in the International Moot Court Competition due to be held in Vienna, Austria, next month. In all 292 universities from 67 countries will take part in the competition. The Dar Al-Hekma students came first in the International Moot Court Competition for the Middle East which concluded in Abu Dhabi Saturday. The competition was organized by Bahrain Chamber of Commerce with the support of the United Arab Emirates University and in conjunction with the US Commercial Law Development Program and the University of Pittsburgh's law school. The nine students competed against 35 students from six universities in the Middle East over a period of four days. Dr. Lamia Gazzaz, Dar Al-Hekma College's deputy dean of student affairs, said the nine students competed against students from six universities and displayed very good skills. They presented convincing defense statements, she said, adding that the panel of judges selected the nine students and gave them the highest marks. “The students have already started preparing for the Vienna competition by drafting memorials and conducting extensive research about the case which the contestants will plead,” Gazzaz noted. Professor Olga Nartova, chair of law department, trained the students and supervised their practical training, Gazzaz noted. Dr. Suhair Al-Qurashi, dean of college, said winning the Middle East proves that the college offers excellent curricula and has highly-qualified prestigious professors. She said she is proud of the students' achievement.
